Language versions

In GEST, you can create different language versions of the same form. This way, each respondent can fill out the form in their chosen language, but all the information can be processed collectively within the same group of people. It is possible to create the form in a total of four different languages. 

When you want to make your form multilingual, first go to the person group dashboard To the Settings tab. 

Make sure that the checkmarks Create a multilingual form mixed Create your own subtitles for the language versions are selected. At the bottom of the page, you can set the default language for the form. Once you have set the language settings, press Save.

Next, we will edit the texts in the form fields. On the Language versions tab.

The tab automatically displays all language options. Although the fields are marked with Finnish, English, Swedish and German, you can create forms in any language. The markings help you remember which language each link is in. Before you start translating, each field has the text of the original field ready.

Write translations for the fields in the languages you want your form to be published in. The fields will not be translated automatically, but you will have to create the translations manually, as the language can be any.

On the Publish Settings tab you can customize the appearance of different language versions. You can name the form, write a description for it, and format the confirmation message. You can find more instructions for this in Publishing settings.

When you publish the form, the system creates a separate link for each language version. You can export the links of the forms you want and embed them to your website or send them via e-mail.

Language versions and form fields

Note: If you have language versions and there are differences between the form template displayed in GEST and the published form, check the Language versions tab.

When language versions are enabled, the Form Fields tab is used primarily to define the structure, order, and basic information of the fields. However, the field titles, texts, and instructions that appear on the published form are retrieved from the language versions. Therefore, for example, changing a field name only on the Form Fields tab may not update the published form.

Compare the fields in the original form and the language versions, especially the Finnish version. If the published form shows old text, missing changes, or other discrepancies, the correction can usually be found in the language versions.
